Friday 20 July 2012

Newman Street!

A lovely afternoon, ladies came and went, tried on clothes, bought  clothes and ordered clothes. Shoes were plentiful and I ended up with a pair of bright pink satin Comme il Faut - my resistance was low!
Makeover was a real treat, Ella and I also had make up done, and hope to have pictures to show the results very soon.
Production has been slow due to the 'you know what' going on in the City at the moment, soon, we hope sewing machines will once again be turning out our beautiful collection.
Some new dates for your diary coming up, so digit or pencil at the ready to make a note.
Enjoy the Olympics one and all.

More Gold

Minnie Driver @ Prometheus
We are still around but extraordinarily busy with matters at work so have not been able to spend as much time as we would like on the Collection.

Production has been difficult to organise due to the Olympics, as mass production has taken over even the smaller companies. Good luck to them we say, they need the business.  Hopefully now that is nearly time for the opening ceremony, it will be our turn to get our orders in!

Fashion Week has been and gone, but we hope that Ella will have time to write a few words about what she saw, and what to look out for.

Meanwhile, we tango on, albeit intermittantly. We have some great times coming up. There has still been time to talk about what we would like to do regarding events.

Please keep an eye out regarding UpComing events, the next one will be on Saturday 21st July at Newman Street, W1 in the afternoon. There will be beautiful clothes, as per usual, an opportunity to have a 1940's makeover (£12.00). Sexy shoes from Buenos Aires and Pimms!  Tea and cakes will also be served. So we hope to see you there, and if you cannot make it, watch this space for the photographs.

Happy Diamond Jubilee one and all!

Hope everyone who knows us in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth has a very jolly time of it.

The final tally - well almost!

Well here we are although there are two more to come from Soy Porteno (Portena for the ladies).  One of the pairs shown is not for me though, truly; however Alan has done very well with Neo Tango split soles which have already had test runs.  The team were really sweet on the last visit bidding us farewell:) - we went in many times trying on lots of different versions and sizes, they deserve a gold medal for their patience!  For the men they had some great shoes, the ladies were lovely too but I was looking for particular colours and heel heights etc. so Alan fared better than me.

I have been asked to flag up all the styles one by one so we have some details below although I'm aware I promised outfits with shoes but we collapsed in a heap on Sunday after all the dancing; not so much of a heap that we couldn't dance on Sunday night though.  Ella

Coming to a dance floor near you:)

Shoes later - perfume first!

Fueguia
Following a successful expedition to CiF, of which more later, we mooched down to the shopping malls of Recoleta and happened upon a lovely artisan perfume emporium! Situated in Av. Alvear, Fueguia is a lovely shop with artisan perfumes for both yourself and your home.  There are approximately 48 scents and needless to say, whilst not buying shoes I had to buy perfume, in this instance a wonderful Gardenia scent which I've really struggled to get in any strength in the UK.  The packaging is beautiful and as such I haven't unwrapped everything leaving it in tact until I get back to England but this brand is coming to London later in the year although the lovely Natasha wasn't sure where the shop would be.
Now back to Comme il Faut; it is official I am a 37 length but a 38 width, so back we went to trying on shoes - oh such hardship!  I finally settled on these - Schaparelli Pink and they are sooo hot!  My sling backs are looking a little tired after a great deal of dancing and these sweeties will go some way to replace them.  The assistant in the shop was great, dutifully bringing out piles of boxes and needless to say these were the first I tried on.  Recoleta is funny on a Saturday afternoon,  really quiet, most shops closing between 1 and 3pm - the height of the spending in London.  The Malls are quite busy, but the shops generally close.
Comme il Faut

Not so much to report today - yesterday's antics are for the blog tomorrow when we'll bring you up to date on what dresses went to which Milongas and with which shoes!

Some shoes for the Gents and the vexed question of what size to buy!

Raquel
These lovelies were bought from Raquel - whilst I didn't get on too well with the ladies styles, Alan got the most beautiful pair of 40s styled two tone shoes.  They are not split soled like some of the other shoes he's finding good to dance in, but they are just so beautiful and well made I couldn't let him leave without them!

For ladies with narrow feet I would recommend Raquel - the uppers range from being quite retro to following current trends and the heel height varies from 5cm to 9cm.  My very wide feet don't really suit French lasts and Raquel sells out of France as well as Buenos Aires.  Some of the colour combinations suit European tastes and have some lovely detailing like insets of contrast leather over a wider sling back strap.

The showroom is in a lovely space in San Telmo, old style with very high ceilings and tall doors.  The buzzer is very discreet so don't go whizzing by as we nearly did.

Neo Tango with a coated beige and cream basket weave.
Neo Tango have done some great men's shoes too, the ones in the picture are split sole without the trainer look which is great for the guys who like their retro suits but find single soles less flexible.

As to sizes, well this is a mystery!  In the UK for daywear I'm a 39, I had thought I was a 38 which I am at Neo Tango but at Souple and Soy Portena I'm down to a 37 - Alan is going down too - we think!  A 40 at Raquel but size 7 at Neo Tango although we think in hindsight it could/should? have been a 6 1/2.
Upper Row L-R: Raquel, Neo Tango.  Bottom row: Neo Tango

The Neo Tango shoes at the bottom of the picture on the left are split soles again which look great on and are great for classes and practice.

Below is a line up of heels - I really put them up for the heel shape although in the picture it isn't as clear as in real life.  The Souple shoes are 8/8.5cm and both CiF and Neo Tango are 8.5cm although the Neo Tango might be nearer 9cm.  The CiF have been worn (a lot!) for about 18 months so excuse their slightly tired expression but the Souple heel has a wider support where it is attached to the shoe.  I wore them for the first time last night and they were really easy to dance in, the heel feels very secure.  So for class and workshops they'll be great, your feet don't have to work any harder than they need to!  Ella

At last some wonderful shoes for me!!

Shoes from Souple
These beautiful shoes from Souple don't look anything out of the ordinary until you put them on your feet!  If you have high insteps and wide feet they give great support - I need to try them out tonight to see whether I should go back and get a second pair! Many thanks to Nayla Vacca for recommending we go and see the shoes.
The soles under the balls of your feet are very soft but really well padded so you can roll your feet the way Mina wants us to:)  I struggled a bit with some of the styles because my foot arches so the straps are not always long enough but the perseverance was worth the time.

We also went to Soy Portena Misse which was fab:)  They didn't have the shoes I wanted in my size so I've ordered two pairs and cannot wait until they arrive - about six weeks I think.  The struggle will be whether I can restrain myself from going back to order another pair!  I have one pair waiting for me in London already from Ange and Krissy at Coleccion la Recoleta in London.  They are beautiful and trying the collection on in the showroom was great - the opening times are from 1pm to 7pm and the porter at reception is a sweetie - 'Tango?' with a wry smile.  Ladies I would really recommend you try the samples from Ange and Krissy.

We made a foray to Greta Flora in Palermo, the Recoleta store only does day shoes.  I was disappointed really, the heels are low - so if you prefer a lower heel that is good because the uppers are wonderful as ever with lovely colours and leathers but for my feet they didn't work and 8cm was the highest which makes for discomfort for me.

Neo Tango came up with some lovely shoes for the gents - Alan has some great split sole shoes which don't look like trainers - pictures to follow:)

See you soon,
Ella

Away too long!

Yes, I know, I know we are really taking our time about this collection! It is well worth the wait.
Ella Sharp has already been out and about in a few of the new designs, giving them a tango test run.

Pictures will be forthcoming on this blog, we promise!

We are not planning a studio day at Newman Street on the 14th April, as we feel the time is needed to finalise the production for the new line, so forgive us and we will make sure we have a great day together soon.

Diary note : 27th May there will be a fashion show on HMS President with Tango on the Thames.

We are also planning or proposing an interesting day of clothes, shoes and dance during the Jubilee Weekend. A work in progress.

Stay with us, you will not be disappointed!

Thursday 8 March 2012

Away too long!

My is it really that long since we were blogging? Apologies dear reader, but we have been rather busy, or distracted by the day job! But have no fear we have been busy behind the scenes. Fabric buying for lace wrap skirts, evening and daywear, including tea dresses.

We currently have some new designs being made up to patterns and some new wrap skirts in production. Sadly our production schedule is in competition with track suits and hoodies, for the Olympics, would'nt you know! So it is all rather slow!

Todo Trajeado will be at The Ball in Tring on 31st March, 14th April at Newman Street and 27th May there will be a fashion show on HMS President with Tango on the Thames.

Meanwhile read the article on Dior and watch the video from Louis V's latest collection.

St Valentine's Day price massacre!!!!

Another successful event!

A chilly but sunny day! We don't blame you for not wanting to come out, but those that did, had a warm welcome with tea and scones! Lovely clothes at cut prices, tango music and plenty of chat!

Several ladies went home very satisfied with the their beautiful bargains.

Portena the new shoe range introduced by Collecion Recoleta are proving to be very popular.

Ella has gone to Paris! Not for Valentines sadly, but working hard with her students and checking out some fabrics and ideas for Todo Trajeado, so we will hope to have more to show of our Spring/Summer 12 Collection very soon.

Tina is busy with her new dance fad - the Charleston! It's a great way to keep warm and happy!

Stay with us, we are busy working up new ideas and styles for you.
